Superb creative and stylish posh weddings from Do Dil.
The Mandap in traditional Indian weddings can be set up on the floor or on a wedding
stage. But the important thing to remember is that the mandap needs to be positioned
safely and to adhere to the venue’s health and safety regulations. In Hindu
weddings, the havand Kund; the vessel in which the holy fire is lit, known as the
‘Agni’ is lit by the Hindu priest. The Hindu priest will recite the
sacred mantras in Sanskrit. Without the holy fire the Hindu marriage is not deemed
complete. In Hindu weddings the bride and groom together make seven encirclements
around the holy fire, reciting a prayer at each step. It is believed that during
the seven encirclements the wows are exchanged and these are believed to worship
food, strength, prosperity, wisdom, progency, health and friendship.
A similair canopy is used by Sikhs in Indian wedding, the sacred holy book is sat
under a canopy called a mandap, and in sikh weddings the couple walk around this
4 times, each encirclement the priest recites the wedding vows.
