In most Asian weddings or in Indian weddings they also use a wedding canopy such as a mandap, under which the wedding vows ceremony takes place. In Sikh religious Indian wedding they may use a canopy called a palki or a traditional mandap. The mandap structure can be made out of fibre glass or wood, these are known as for example Roman Pillar Mandap, or a carved Mandap. Nowadays couple’s are exchanging their vows under very extravagant designer mandaps such as crystal Mandaps with chandeliers in them. The Mandap’s overall size and shape is dictated by the round top or square top canopy that sit’s on top of the pillars of the mandap. Often Mandaps can be ten feet square or much larger.
